The DVN Gold

Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten is honored with a gold themed exhibit named Inspirations  in Paris. Dries shares space with clothes of other celebrated designers like Thierry Mugler, Dior and Chanel. It is a tour of his creative mind, placing his runway collections in context of his many cultural reference points.

A wall of video screens displays close-up the handicraft that goes into achieving the designer's singular brand of exoticism.

This is the very first exhibition devoted to the artist’s work. As Dries Van Noten takes us on an intimate journey into his artistic universe brings together elements which point to other sources of inspiration, such as anonymous 19th century pieces and works by emblematic couturiers such as Elsa Schiaparelli and Christian Dior to evoke intimate subject matters such as youth, the archetype, ambiguity and passion, while highlighting his ‘signature’ themes.

Dries Van Noten is a brand for grown-ups, a name respected by connoisseurs. It is opulent, but not silly. It is a label worn by serious people – despite the sumptuousness of its fabrics and vibrancy of its colors. Van Noten himself is designer and chief executive of the company with an annual turnover of more than €50m.

The exhibition is the result of Dries Van Noten’s close collaboration with the Arts Decoratifs Museum, which has prompted him to use several 19th century textile patterns in his 2014 men’s and women’s Spring/Summer ready-to-wear collections
