Fashion Sprouts In China

Over the last few years, we’ve seen a lot of weird fashion trends emerge on the internet. Normcore was one such fashion trend that emerged in 2014.It was all about having a hyper-adaptable
personality and being able to fit in wherever you are, as opposed to a conscious aesthetic choice.
Unfortunately, this still didn't stop everyone from Vogue to Gap from associating it with deliberate
blandness. Normcore was “fashion for those who realise they’re one in seven billion.”
Then followed Health Goth, a style movement which met at the intersection of monochrome sportswear and fetish culture. Then, in the wake of Prada’s SS16 collection, there was post-modesty – Miuccia Prada’s tongue-in-cheek response to people’s obsession with flagrant self-promotion on social media. And then came the next emerging trend- Bonnetcore. As the name suggests, it involves wearing bonnets – a type of headgear that emerged in the Middle Ages.

And now 2015 is about BeanBag Core-Taiwanese women wearing carrier bags. Hailing from China, the latest strange trend to take the web by storm is SproutCouture – bean sprout hair clips. Men, women, grandmothers and children in China are all donning the beansprout hairpin—a barrette that creates the highly sought illusion of a plant protruding from the head. This seems to be fashion's amazing trompe d'oeil by creating the illusion of beans growing out of your hair.

And guess what.. From where did this trend first sprout.. Well from a cartoon show - Pleasant Goat and the Big Big Wolf.

It's really easy for all you fashion victims out there to participate in this trend. Simply purchase these bean sprout hair clips from ebay for just £0.63. And post your sprouts on #sproutcore..

When A Suit Becomes A Stumbling Block

What is common in men in Limitless, The Great Gatsby, The Wolf of Wall Street, Godfather, Ocean's 11,12 and 13, Transporter, Casino, All the Bond movies and ............. ... . the list will go on .. Well I'll tell you it's men in suits. There is something about men in nicely tailored suits that attracts me to them. They look so refined, polished and classic. Gelled hair, tailored suit, matching shoes and a nice pocket square.. Man I am floored.. Period.

Style today is moving in the direction of subtraction.Simplicity, quality, integrity: This is the new extra 10 percent. Men will always need a suit their wardrobe, whether it be used for an interview, party, work, prom or wedding.

There are suits that have streamlined fits, solid colors, interesting textures. Shirts —white or pale blue, blank canvases each of them. And then there is the total lack of discernible flair—no colorful pocket squares, no wild socks, no jazzy plaids or bright colors. There's a word for this approach to dressing up—simple—and it works because the absence of look-at-me details or accessories can be the sartorial equivalent of silence speaking louder than words: a bold statement that signals clear intent and ample confidence.

Wool Flannel Suit - J.Crew - $650

My personal favorites are Flannel Suits. They look fresh as they come in  beautiful colors like the one above in dark cobalt. Flannel's appeal isn't all new, and it looks its very best when conservative, traditional fabric balances out a slim, cropped silhouette.

Bedford Flannel Striped Suit - Polo Ralph - $1295

Pinstripes plus flannel equals a patrician air that can easily take over the boardroom. Now you know why the wall street men are so appealing. It's not just their brains, but their suave sophistication can assault your senses altogether.

Grey Wool Flannel Suit - Ami - $895

One of flannel's best characteristics is its fuzzy, visual texture, a characteristic perfectly illustrated by the above suit by Ami. The suit looks so traditional but the polka vest completely changes the outlook and gives it a retro yet modern feel. Young Stylish Traditional Repeat

And if there is scorching heat outside then Linen and Seersucker are the two best friends that every gentleman should have in suit forms. The light weight fabrics has got generations of men through the dog days of summer.

American style, Parisian tailoring, and Italian wool can make one hell of a suit screaming - "I am a MAN and I will protect you'. Throwing your jacket over your shoulders, wearing white button down shirts, reading books, looking pensive are nothing but stumbling blocks for all those girls who are awestruck by men looking dapper in suits.

So go buy a suit that won't break your bank but will definitely be a killer to the opposite lot around you.

My Blue Period

I’m going through a blue period. Not emotionally, not Picasso-ly, just sartorially.

Since about March I’ve been wearing blue on blue. I have bought a pair of culottes, blue; a horizontal-stripe skirt from a flee market in Mumbai, Blue; a vertical-stripe tee from an exhibit in Kolkata, Blue. A hat from Forever New, Blue.Skater shoes from Nike, a shirt dress from Levis. All blue.

Recently I realized that getting dressed had become easier. You can pretty much put any blue with another and the effect is one of calm and order. Standard blue cotton Oxfords would have looked bank clerk-ish with black become considered with another shade of blue.

Clashing fabrics and patterns such as striped khadi crop top goes amazingly well with jacquard culottes because both are in shades of Blue. I'm the serious fashion types who majorly wears Black. But I am changing colors now :p .  But that doesn’t mean all the colors all the time. A dose of  blue is definitely more than enough.

Indigo is the color of summer sky. And add a dash of white into the mix and you’re a Greek island in motion :)

So that seemed to be it, Spring 2015 had been Blue indeed. With an Indigo Summer, I thought that winter would be a sea change. But Autumn/Winter 2015 is the convent meets techno sport… the blues are lighter, duller or frozen. Virgin blue, icy softness, calm, the aftermath of spring. A chic look, the classic bourgeois style is twisted to give it a retro sporty feel. Worn with black, navy, white and bright colors, it will take on a divine character.

It Suits You Gal..

Fresh into 2015 and as we feel the nip in the air we also see how the who's who in the fashion fraternity is all "suited" up this winter.Forget everything you know about traditional power dressing, the new trouser suit comes with whimsical touches, like the twine and cowbell belts at Céline or shimmering pinstripes at Chanel. You can leave the shoulder pads at home, but this season a cropped trouser is essential.

TUX seems to be the new best friend on and off the runway. Teamed sans top or sans brassiere, the new TUX has only become more sexier.Menswear is a go-to look for celebs right now.
Women have been borrowing pieces from men for decades (perfect worn-in boyfriend jeans, Oxford button downs, and even a sharply tailored jacket ), rarely have entire looks been worth lifting off the runway.

Here are my top 10 takes on the new found love for the girl power dressing..

1) Kristen Stewart - Taking a cue from the boys Kristen Stewart suits up in Sandro (Rex). The 24 year old was spotted wearing a grey tuxedo jacket, a black sleeveless top, grey cropped trousers, white sneakers and a hot pink lip.

2) Kim Kardashian - The besotted 34-year-old mom and her husband Kanye West were wearing matching Balmain tuxedo jackets. The Vogue cover stars even sported matching plunging necklines.
Naturally there were slight differences in their respective looks. Kim went pants-less and accessorized with strappy open-toed stilettos while her hubby paired his blazer with leather trousers and suede boots.

3) Cara Delevingne - For the tuxedos truer form, check out Cara Delevingne’s DKNY campaign shoot she’s buttoned-up, free of makeup and flourishing her tailored two-piece with a skinny tie.She can definitely cut it with the boys as she sports the stylish androgynous suit teamed with her signature trainers.

4) Emma Stone - Stone wowed the crowd in a thoroughly modern bustier top and tuxedo pants by Lanvin. She feminized them with a large bow at the derrière and a glittery, strapless top.

5) Lorde - This 18 year old Grammy Award winning artist opted for a sexy look in a black custom made Narciso Rodriguez ensemble, revealing some cleavage and her midriff. The outfit comprised of a high-waisted straight leg trousers, a low-cut crop top with a sheer insert covering part of her cleavage and a long collarless jacket over the top.

6) Ellen De Generes - She didn't just get suited up at the 2015 People's Choice Awards. She wore something she designed. Her dazzling array of custom Saint Laurent pantsuit totally rocked it.

7) Bella Thorne - She was on her way to red carpet glory when she spurned the ultra-glamorous gowns in favor of an androgynous two-piece suit at the People's Choice Awards 2015.The 17-year-old, looked sleek in the tailored all-black outfit, letting her flame-colored locks offer a pop of color.
Also firmly separating her child star status by not wearing a top under her plunging jacket that parted with satin lapels.

8) Shailene Woodley - The 22-year-old wore an androgynous Temperley London vest, matching slacks, and patent leather Oxfords. Shailene can certainly pull off a menswear-inspired ensemble, but she needs to rethink her accessories next time.

9) Olivia Wilde - Olivia Wilde hit the H&M Flagship Fifth Avenue Store launch donning a boyish blazer, low-cut lace top and wide-leg pants from the fast-fashion brand, looking as sexy as ever.

10) Jennifer Aniston - The honey blonde bombshell surprised all with a look that has rendered me speechless. Aniston dropped jaws in a daring burnt sienna, Gucci tuxedo with nothing else except for a delicate gold lariat necklace and burgundy Louboutin pumps. That's hot gal..

New York fashion in terms of androgyny is typically wearable whereas London is more experimental with fashion forward statements. In Milan women traipsed the catwalks trouser suited which filled in an air of fairy tale Italian escapism. While in Paris, androgyny gets the classic, the new, in a distinctly Parisian way this 2015. The trouser suit can be experimental, classic, feminine or androgynous. Masculine-meets-feminine in fashions, sometimes over-sized silhouettes of coats, capes and billowing furs.Layering masculine pieces over feminine ones like a pair of printed or colored shorts topped with a boxy blazer, for example helps the two aesthetics appear harmonious.

Last but not the least as quoted by Whitney Houston - " I like being a woman even in a man's world. After all, men can't wear dresses, but we can wear the pants."
So Agree ..
